THE FOUNDER

DR. ROLAND AMOUSSOU-GUENOU — DR. SALSA

Researcher, author and cultural educator — the founder of SALSA CONCEPT®.

BACKGROUND

Dr. Roland Amoussou-Guenou — known as Dr. Salsa — is the founder of SALSA CONCEPT®. His work brings cultural research, publishing and education together to share the history and living heritage of Salsa across Africa, the Caribbean, the Americas and Asia.

His research traces the journey of Salsa from West African memory through Cuba and New York to Asia — a journey told in the 2026 flagship book “SALSA: The Unstoppable Rhythm That Conquered the World”, published by Asiafrica Consulting (AACO).

In 2009 he introduced SALSA CONCEPT® to faculty and students at the College of Management, Mahidol University — an early milestone for Salsa cultural education in a Thai university, recorded in the programme's photo archive.

WORK WITH THE ASIAFRICA FOUNDATION

SALSA CONCEPT® operates under the AsiAfrica Foundation, where Dr. Salsa develops the programme's cultural and educational activities: research, publishing, lectures, experiential workshops and international dialogue.

Through the Foundation, he opened an initiative advocating for the future recognition and safeguarding of Salsa as intangible cultural heritage of humanity, drawing upon the Salsa History Project.

The SALSA CONCEPT® trademark is registered in Thailand in his name, protecting the programme's identity for its long-term cultural mission.
